Hey Morning Squad,

Happy New Years to you all!!

We had some exciting basketball since we last spoke. So let’s start of the year right with…

The Games

1)Mr.Back to Back is in the building.

If you don’t know who I’m referring to, I’m talking about one Mr. Demar DeRozan.

If you watched the games this weekend, you would have seen this man hit back to back game winning 3’s in two different years against two different teams!

If you blinked it felt like groundhogs day.

All weekend I kept hearing the announcers yell:

“DEMAR DEROZAN DELIVERS!!”

*Drake — Big DeRozan fan!!*

They don’t call him Mr. 4th quarter for nothing. He scored 28 points in both games (vs. Pacers & Wizards). And in my opinion, catapulted himself into the MVP discussion.

These Bulls are playing a great brand of basketball. Led by Zach LaVine and DeRozan, this team does it all.

Anyone who says it doesn’t feel good to see DeMar have a career bounce back like this, just doesn’t love basketball.

If he keeps this up, I like his narrative for being an MVP. Right now it’s Him, Steph, KD, Giannis & Lebron (if he secures a playoff spot).

Crazy way to start the New Year.

2)New Year, New Lakers?

The Lakers welcomed in the New Year with 2 big wins.

First up, the Lakers beat up a terrible Blazers team. The team they played isn’t as important as what Lebron did on the court, which was dominate.

People have been questioning, how much more can Lebron carry this team.

Well…43 pts 14 rebounds on New Years Eve! He was dunking to send messages.

He followed this up with another win against the Wolves, posting 26 pts & 7 rebounds.

But I saw something most people wouldn’t even catch at first glance. Check out this photo…

While everyone around Lebron is celebrating, (including Russ who had 7 turnovers in a half), he’s busy thinking to himself “It ain’t supposed to be this dog-gone hard to beat the T-Wolves. MaannNn!”

Everyone else is setting New Years resolutions…so here’s to the Lakers committing to make this year better than the last one!

3)Milwaukee is still winning.

No your eyes do not deceive you..the Bucks have reeled of 6 straight wins.

Giannis had a 35 point triple double against the Pelicans. (35 pts- 16reb-10 assists) The Bucks big 3 remains unbeaten when they all play this season and it seems like they are rounding into championship form once again.

The weird thing is, because of their rough start they’ve flown under the radar. Giannis, I got you. They are on the radar now….

4)A moment in Boston

Just had to put this in here, although it barely made the cut:

Ya’ll, Boston actually beat somebody good.

Celtics beat the Phoenix Suns in the Garden. And they were up the whole game!

Then last night Jaylen Brown drops 50 against the Magic, who at this point are just playing to help players have career nights against them.

I’m only a little excited…although I think my wife told me I mumbled something in my sleep like..”go green…”.

Might have been dreaming about global warming though.

Other notables

  • Steph and Iggy close out Utah.
  • Grizz keep winning. Ja Morant with 30pts vs the Spurs.
  • Heat beat the Rockets (More on that game below)
  • Suns demolish the Hornets. Win by 34.
  • Luka is back..win against the Thunder.

Big League Chew

Josh Giddy becomes youngest player to have a triple double. (17–13–14)

Houston we have a problem: Kevin Porter Jr. walks out from The Houston Rockets at half-time. Like leaves the arena, go home, AB style. And reportedly Christian Wood refused to play in the second half of the game.

Rondo officially on the Cavs.
